Unit Secretary
Seeking Full Time staff
BLUESTONE: Bluestone Child & Adolescent Hospital is seeking dynamic healthcare professionals interested in bringing psychiatric care to a new level for children ages 6-17. Working in a brand new, 12 bed state-of-the-art facility, Bluestone staff will have a unique ability to direct patient care, employ best practices, and join a care network that promotes the best long-term outcomes for patients.
JOB SUMMARY: The Unit Secretary organizes the clerical functions of the nursing unit, including communication, record keeping, logs, and patient information. In addition, the Unit Secretary notifies the nursing staff and/or the charge nurse in a timely manner of pertinent patient information, including physician orders, laboratory or test results, and other pertinent communication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain patients’ written medical records/charts as per policy and procedure.
- Upload written documentation into patients’ electronic record in a timely and efficient manner.
- Answer the telephone, deliver messages, sort unopened mail, and place mail in designated boxes.
- Facilitate patient calls to phone contacts when indicated.
- Greet, sign-in, and wand visitors when indicated.
- Collect inventory of hospital supplies and order additional supplies when indicated.
- Monitor and maintain clinical/operational forms, including, but not limited to: restraint and monitoring forms, assignment sheets, rounds forms, etc.
- Complete photocopying and faxing as requested.
- Schedule outpatient medical appointments and complete financial eligibility process.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to dress code; appearance is neat, clean and professional.
- Maintain regulatory requirements.
- Maintain patient/client confidentiality at all times.
- Wear identification while on duty.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Attend annual reviews and department in-services as scheduled.
- Attend medical staff meetings and other committee meetings as required.
- Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Comply with all organizations policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the facility
- Education: A minimum of a degree or certificate in medical secretary training or an Associate’s Degree required.
- Licensure: None.
- Skills:
- Possess effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
- Demonstrate basic computer knowledge for the implementation of patient/client information electronic record keeping.
- Demonstrate attention to detail.
- Experience: A minimum of 1 year clerical experience in a medical setting required.
